The Company
Caleb Woodard Furniture Co. provides the finest quality of handmade furniture to discerning clients in the Northern
Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland area. Our designs are driven by the wood first, because we view it as more
than just a material. And, because we have a passion for genres, we often give playful design nods to the past,
whether through the drama of cabriole legs or the cool simplicity of mid-century lines.
Only premium materials are used and are carefully hand-selected and milled to reduce waste. The finishes are
usually hand-rubbed oils and occasionally water-based lacquers. Every piece we create is designed and built to last
more than a lifetime.
Philosophy
"I think some of us have come to a point where honest goods mean a lot to us. We want a product that speaks of
pride and care and a craftsman's touch. Most of what is sold to us is machine made, inferior in quality and material,
and usually from thousands of miles away. I think we shortchange ourselves with these things. Honest goods, goods
with a maker's touch, a quality material, and maybe even a story, is a truer value. For these reasons all of my
furniture is custom designed and built by hand. I strive to create designs that respect the scarcity of our resources
and honor nature and the beauty of its figure and form. Above all, in each piece, I work to create furniture that is
honest."
Biography
Caleb Woodard has been involved in woodworking since he was old enough to walk into his father's woodshop to
play with blocks of basswood. His father, a master woodworker for over 30 years, was the main instrument in his
education and he is forever grateful to him. Caleb lives and works in the Washington, DC area with his wife and
business partner Melanie.
